Valeo Accelerates Remanufacturing With New Launches at Rematec 2025

Press Release: The decarbonisation of mobility must go hand in hand with greater circularity and the preservation of natural resources. Our industry must optimize the consumption of resources, taking into account the increasing scarcity of raw materials.

Valeo is committed to circularity and ensures that each technology delivers four fundamental benefits, known as the 4Rs: robust design, repair, remanufacturing and recycling.

  • Robust design to maximise product lifespan: The circular economy starts at the design stage. 80% of a product’s environmental impact is determined at the design stage.
  • Repair to give a second chance to a dysfunctional product.
  • Remanufacturing, to reuse products at the end of their life cycle and refurbish them to the same high quality.
  • Recycling, as a last resort, to transform raw materials so that they can be reused in new products.

At Valeo, our remanufactured products include 80% of reused materials and we keep developing our portfolio, already one of the largest of the market. With 55 million tonnes of electronic waste generated every year, discarding electronic and electrical parts because of a single faulty component is both wasteful and environmentally unsustainable. As vehicles embark on more and more electronic and electrical parts, we are also developing our offer for these products.

Christophe Le Ligné, Valeo Group R&D VP and Light CTO said: “At Valeo, we are deeply committed to remanufacturing. Our ambition is to double the number of remanufactured products to 2 million by 2030, and, at the same time, we are expanding our range to offer more electric and electronic products. This major milestone will be achieved through our ability to build together strong partnerships with our ecosystem to deliver remanufactured high-tech products. Drivers can now choose these “as good as new” options, such as remanufactured LED headlamps and repaired display screens at a lower cost, while actively contributing to a more sustainable future“.

Partnership with industry leaders for three new remanufactured products

These innovations are announcing a new era for remanufacturing, adjusted to the increasing content of electronics in recent vehicles. Valeo will extend new offers from 2026 to the independent aftermarket, enabling each channel to contribute to the development of circular economy.

Collaborating with Stellantis, Valeo successfully launches a remanufactured LED headlamp, the first of its kind from Valeo

This cooperation highlights the commitment to sustainability. Remanufacturing the headlamp enables the reuse of up to 50% of the raw materials recovered from an end-of-life LED headlamp, mostly the most valuable parts such as the LED module itself, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 70% compared to producing a new one.*

Remanufacturing also offers new opportunities for Valeo’s industrial activities, reinforcing its operations in the plants of Chrzanow (PL) and Angers (FR).

Stellantis is the first carmaker to integrate this product in its after sales offer in Europe, available in the SUSTAINera REMAN range.

The display screen with Stellantis, a new product for the Circular Electronics Lab in Nevers (FR)

In 2022, Valeo opened the Circular Electronics Lab in Nevers (FR), a laboratory that takes a unique approach to remanufacturing, focusing on research, development, testing and the delivery of high-quality products in a short timeframe.

Building on its experience in remanufacturing the front camera, launched in 2023, Valeo is again partnering with Stellantis to remanufacture the display screen. Too often, a vehicle’s display screen is thrown away when this high value-added part could be remanufactured.

This is what Stellantis and Valeo are offering with the display by remanufacturing defective components, in order to return the product to a functional and aesthetic state that conforms to its original use.

Valeo partners with The Remakers for the remanufactured inverter of Renault Zoe

The electric motor and power electronics are now reconditioned. The Veszprem site in Hungary is Valeo’s production site specialised in inverters. It was therefore the natural choice for remanufacturing inverters. Once remanufactured, the inverter is integrated into the power control module at The Remakers workshop of Flins.

This new offer, available in the Renault network from the second half of 2025, will save 80% of new natural resources and reduce CO2 emissions by 50% compared with the production of the same new component.

Valeo delivers on its commitment to expand remanufacturing

Valeo currently remanufactures one million products per year and aims to double this figure by 2030, reinforcing its objective of decarbonization and the preservation of raw materials.

Valeo has more than 40 years experience in remanufacturing electrical and mechanical products, such as starters and alternators, compressors, brake calipers or clutches, for passenger cars and trucks. Last year, we launched a pneumatic concentric actuator for Commercial vehicles, and this year, we will be launching a Double Wet Clutch (DWC) for DQ250, covering millions of vehicles.

The group is extending its offer to include the remanufacturing of high voltage and electronic parts such as inverters, headlamps and display screens.

Remanufacturing for all types of mobility

Valeo plays a major role in promoting more diverse mobility and has chosen to commit itself to small forms of mobility such as bicycles by reconditioning batteries and motors.

In May 2024, Valeo and Smovengo, operator of Vélib’ Métropole, joined forces to recondition the motors and batteries of the more than 8,000 electric Vélibs that are touring the streets of Greater Paris. Since then Valeo also developed partnerships with other eBike fleets operators.

Valeo repairs more than 500 bike batteries a month at the Circular Electronics Lab in Nevers (FR) with a material recovery rate of over 90%.

The bicycle motors, which reach up to 80% material recovery, are remanufactured in Czechowice in Poland. As a competence centre, the Czechowice site supports all Valeo remanufacturing entities worldwide.

I Care for the Planet: promoting circular economy in the aftermarket

Valeo’s “I Care for the Planet” program emphasizes remanufacturing to reduce environmental impact in aftermarket activities.

Today, more than one third of workshops still think that remanufactured products are lower quality than new ones. Valeo is committed to promoting a circular economy aftermarket with high-quality, cost-effective remanufactured products.

Valeo remanufactured products are as good as new ones. Each collected part is cleaned and disassembled. Components are individually controlled and repaired or replaced if needed. The product is reassembled and tested to meet Valeo’s stringent automotive standards – all in the same as new parts.

Valeo also provides online tutorials for workshops through its Valeo Tech Academy to present Valeo’s reman quality and recently launched 3 interactive and pragmatic modules dedicated to workshops:

  • Why is remanufacturing part of the circular economy?
  • How does the remanufacturing process work?
  • What makes Valeo’s remanufactured products as good as new products?

More than 2/3 of professionals declare the core management is too complex. To address this challenge, Valeo is simplifying the core collection and the surcharge:

  • Valeo handles logistics at distributor level, based on demand and with a low minimum of just 20 units and streamlines operations with a unique transport company collecting all cores in each country.
  • Cores are sorted in our plants using e-Corps, an in-house tool refined over 20 years, ensuring fast & efficient processing, so credit notes are issued within 48 to 72 hours.
  • Each Reman product type now has a single core surcharge value, eliminating complex sorting & calculations. Simple, fast, efficient!

Finally, the Valeo Reman Partner Program, introduced in January 2025, encourages distributors in Europe to expand their reman product ranges. According to their performance, they will be ranked Bronze ,Silver, Gold and will benefit accordingly from special Bonuses and Services, like VIP events to discover Valeo Remanufacturing Solutions.
